Not A Wellness Hack. 3 Things That Improved My Mental Health

It's #WorldMentalHealthDay and in a world full of wellness hacks and 5am routines I wanted to share 3 simple things that have improved my mental health.

~I stopped drinking. I removed something that was a net negative to my mental health and said goodbye to weekly hangxiety.

~I started lifting. It was hard at first but gave me discipline, confidence and a natural high. Those benefits seeped into other areas of my life and made me more mindful about what I eat.

~I picked up my camera more. Photography got me outdoors and gave me somewhere to put my energy and focus. It helped me be present, gave me a creative outlet and introduced me to new places & people.

In 2026 with AI uncertainty, cost of living and everything happening in the world... life can feel pretty overwhelming at times.

Being a father has brought joy but balancing family life with work comes with its own inevitable demands and stresses too.

When things feel like they’re getting on top of me I always ask if I’m keeping up with these 3 practises.

While they aren't a cure for everything they remind me that the things that improve my mental health are often the simplest.

Looking after our mental health can mean different things to different people and professional support is important but so are everyday things that help us feel good.

In a digital world full of algorithms selling us the next quick fix, are we sometimes overlooking some of the everyday things that can make a difference?
