Arclett x Public Health Croydon

Rethinking alcohol prevention through conversation, not judgement.

Helping people reflect on their relationship with alcohol before harm escalates.

Why this campaign?

Approximately 1 in 6 adults in Croydon drink at increasing-risk levels, making prevention and earlier conversations an important part of improving population health. Alongside treatment & recovery services, public health also has an important role in helping people recognise risk earlier and supporting healthier choices before harms develop. The campaign recognises that behaviour change is rarely immediate. Instead, it often begins with a simple moment of reflection.

A different model of prevention

Arclett exists to fill the gap between drinking as a cultural default and treatment services.

Using lived experience, public health evidence and digital storytelling, we create public health campaigns that help people reflect earlier, challenge stigma and normalise healthier choices.

Rather than relying on fear or shame, our work focuses on creating positive, relatable conversations that people recognise themselves in. This reflects Arclett's wider mission to support the large proportion of people who are questioning their relationship with alcohol before it develops into dependency.

Partnership

This campaign has been developed collaboratively by Public Health Croydon & Arclett as part of a shared commitment to strengthening alcohol prevention through evidence-informed, person-centred public health communications.

Together, we believe prevention should begin long before someone reaches treatment ~ creating opportunities for reflection, conversation and healthier choices across the whole population.

A new approach to alcohol prevention

Alcohol prevention has traditionally focused on raising awareness of harm or supporting people once alcohol has become a significant problem. Both remain essential.

But there is another opportunity. Many people quietly question their drinking long before they ever seek support. They may be thinking about cutting back, noticing changes in their sleep, mood or energy, or wondering whether alcohol still fits into their life. This is where prevention can make the greatest difference.

Working in partnership with Public Health Croydon, Arclett has developed a public health campaign designed to encourage reflection, reduce stigma and make conversations about alcohol feel more accessible.

Rather than telling people what to do, the campaign invites people to pause, think and make informed choices that work for them.
