“I’ve now been sober for six months, which is something I’m really proud of. When I first decided to stop drinking, I wasn’t really sure what difference it would make, but looking back, quite a lot has changed.
One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is having a clearer head. I can concentrate better, I have more motivation and find it easier to deal with stress without getting overwhelmed.
One of the best parts has been getting interested in my hobbies again. I’ve rediscovered my love of photography, especially wildlife and street photography. It gives me a reason to grab my camera, get outdoors and explore new places. I’m noticing I’m more observant now, whether it’s wildlife, interesting light or just something that catches my eye.
My love of music has returned as well. I’ve got really into collecting vinyl, cassettes and other formats, building my hi-fi setup and actually sitting down to properly listen to and enjoy albums again.
The main thing I’ve realised is that stopping drinking hasn’t really felt like giving something up. It feels more like I’ve got things back: my interests, motivation and curiosity.
Six months is a big milestone for me, and I’m looking forward to the next six.”
